I created this series of creature concepts for the titular manifestation of evil in writer-director Jon Watts' 2014 debut horror film. Despite our shared enthusiasm for these ideas, the film's modest VFX and makeup budget was unfortunately not able to accommodate their anatomical ambitiousness, and a simpler direction was chosen. Still, I like to think they helped Mr. Watts get excited about the potential feel of his film, which was based on old-world eastern European and Germanic Yule folk legends of the "Krampus", a beast whose attention (and appetite) was reserved for particularly badly behaved children.
