THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW

ART DIRECTION & CONCEPT DESIGN

ILM contributed VFX for the final act of Director Roland Emmerich's 2004 cautionary ecological disaster epic, featuring the city and surroundings of Manhattan encased in a surreal layer of snow and ice. As VFX Art Director, I worked with Emmerich, Production VFX Supervisor Karen Goulekas and ILM VFX Supervisors Eric Brevig and Denis Muren - and the talented concept artists on my team  -  to develop the unique look of the windswept "rime ice" covering every building and landmark, striving for a balance of apocalyptic majesty and cinematic realism.
