THE CONSPIRATOR
ART DIRECTION & CONCEPT DESIGN
I served as VFX Art Director at SlashFX/Reliance Mediaworks in San Francisco for this 2011 Civil War drama directed by Robert Redford.
My role on the film really began during a series of kitchen table meetings at Redford's home during which I created sketches and storyboards of how he envisioned depicting 1865 Washington DC. Those evolved into previsualizations/animatics for each VFX shot. I created color concept art, supervised greenscreen stage shoots and contributed many final digital matte painting elements, working closely with our team which included VFX CG Supervisors Richard McBride, Sean Schur and Peter Oberdorfer, among others.
Below you can see VFX breakdowns for several of the major shots, and a selection of development sketches, concept paintings and final matte paintings I created.
