SQUISHBOT

ART DIRECTION & CONCEPT DESIGN

Float Hybrid & Microsoft - Kinect

Conceived as an early demonstration of the pioneering tech and unique input-mechanics of Microsoft's Kinect for XBox, this unique and surreal game was created by San Francisco-based studio Float-Hybrid Studios, as an externally published title for Microsoft Game Studios.

Working closely with Creative Director and innovator John Gaeta (The Matrix trilogy), and inspired by the terrific, 'squishy' robotic creations of Olivier "Zamak" Bucheron, I developed the visual language and style of the game's bouncy, interactive and always-alive "squish-world", providing dozens of drawings and designs that guided the environment team's great work, seen in the prototype game capture, below. Sadly, the final game was never completed or published, but it remains one of my favorite collaborations and co-creations.
