ESCAPE PLAN

CONCEPT ART & DESIGN

Sony & Fun Bits Interactive - Sony Vita

Escape Plan was among the first flagship titles created for Sony's handheld VITA device and platform. Working with the game's terrifically creative development studio, Seattle's FunBits Interactive, I had more fun than I should admit to contributing dozens of visual concepts for its many sardonically warped environments, machines and props.

Gleefully embracing the game's unique monochrome, neo-noir aesthetic and wit, I visualized their dystopian prison world and devised seemingly endless ways for the two hapless yet adorable protagonists to die, to be reborn, to valiantly attempt escape, only to die spectacularly and humorously—again and again—and the Rube Goldberg-esque mechanics that would messily foil their efforts.

Below are some video highlights of the game and a good many of my drawings, including a full storyboard for a cinematic ending sequence that was sadly never used, but which I still enjoy playing in my mind.
